Year Course (SSFHS only)

Fulfills “g” of UC/CSU A-G admission requirements
 
This course will introduce students to the basic skills necessary to pursue a career in construction. The course covers foundations, flooring, framing, plumbing, electrical ,windows, doors, cabinetry, use of hand tools, and construction math.  Integrated into the course is workplace safety, interpersonal skills, problem solving, and construction technology career exploration. Students may elect in their 11th or 12th grade year to apply this course credit toward math elective credit to fulfill SSFUSD graduation requirements only.

Prerequisite: Construction Technology 1
 
This course prepares students to enter the construction trades in a variety of apprenticeship programs through completion of the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3). The Multi-Craft Core Curriculum expands on construction math, blueprint reading, tools and materials, and safety while also introducing green construction and financial literacy. Students may elect in their 11th or 12th grade year to apply this course credit toward math elective credit to fulfill SSFUSD graduation requirements only.

An entry-level class designed to allow students to explore the materials, tools, and processes used in the field of woodworking. A detailed safety program is employed for all power tools. Students will be required to keep a notebook. Skill and knowledge is achieved through the construction of class-assigned projects.

Prerequisite: “C” grade in Woods 1 or teacher recommendation
 
Students may choose from the following subject areas: hand tool processes, wood joinery, door construction, furniture design, furniture construction, wood finishing techniques, carpentry and construction. These areas of instruction will be covered through long-term individual instruction or group projects.

Prerequisite: “C” grade in Woods 2 or teacher recommendation
 
This course is designed to continue the study of woodworking. Individual and group projects are encouraged. Students are responsible for the cost of all materials used in the construction of their projects. Students will keep these projects at the completion of the course.
