Last week, the biotechnology 3-4 and 5-6 students presented their research they have been working on this year. All students worked hard and it truly showed in their amazing presentations. I am happy to announce that many of them were recognized by Genentech on stage in front of their peers, parents and guardians, Genentech employees, and other biotechnology industry members.
Awesome Aesthetics: Telling a story is certainly a skill, but telling someone a story they’ve heard in a way that makes it sound new and exciting is a gift, in every sense of the word. This award goes to the students who presented their poster in the most creative and engaging way. This award goes to Ingrid Valencia Rojas, Keillyn Soto Rodriguez, Keira Wing!
Remarkable Resilience: This award celebrates the true spirit of scientific discovery! Sometimes our experiments don’t go as planned and that’s okay. The Resilient Researcher Award recognizes the student group who show exceptional skill in explaining their scientific process, understanding their results, and creatively exploring why things turned out differently than expected. It’s all about learning from every experiment, no matter the outcome. This award honors curiosity, adaptability, and the ability to find valuable insights in unexpected places. . This award goes to Kane Yokoro, Diego Alas Quintanilla!
Backstage Superstars: With eighteen different labs running each week, preparing lab materials for 90+ students requires hard work and precision. This award goes to the students who worked tirelessly assisting their instructors in making sure each lab group had the materials they needed. This award goes to Diego Alas Quintanilla, Kane Yokoro, Aleczia Trinidad, Hailey Fontela, Aiden Yang, Erica Marie Songco, Keess Smalls, and Jayda Teofilo!
Perfect Pitch: Being able to communicate data effectively is a critical skill. It is extra difficult to communicate a year’s worth of work to someone who doesn’t know the background of your project intimately. This award goes to the students who provided excellent synopsis of their work in a clear and understandable manner. This award goes to Anjay Meneses, Aaron Koswara!
Outstanding Overall: A recognition of comprehensive excellence, this award goes to the students who achieved the highest combined score for appearance, content, and presentation. This award goes to Jayda Teofilo, Hillary Ho!
People's Pick: With the power presented to the populace, this award goes to the students who achieved the highest score based on employee/guest polling. This award goes to Isabella Mejia San Martin (ECHS), Kayla Le (SSFHS), Kyra Young (SSFHS), Lise Kolin (ECHS)!
Lastly, four students were chosen for the honor of presenting their research on the main stage in front of not only their peers, families, and mentors, but also a panel of expert science judges. This honor goes to Sophia Golingo, Eva Tamayo, Madison Woo, and Jollyn Gunardi (SSFHS)!
Although only a few were recognized on stage, I'd like to recognize each student for their hard work and dedication, impressing their audience with their critical thinking and curiosity in the biotech field.
Former student of SSFHS, Amélie Cayton, is a Genentech Science Expert!
Thank you for being a part of the Science Garage celebration!
