In a wide-ranging interview, South San Francisco High School's second-year history and ethnic studies teacher Laurel Dearborn talks about the role of ethnic studies in a post-Black Lives Matter (BLM) world.
She also shares her thoughts on distance learning and how she coped with the COVID-19 pandemic as a first-year teacher.
The spread of the virus forced SSFUSD to cancel all in-person classes effective March 16, 2020, and to begin the 2020-21 school year in 100% distance learning mode for all students.
Laurel began her teaching career with South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) in August 2019.
