Athlete Participation & Eligibility

This page provides important information for students and families regarding eligibility requirements, registration steps, and required forms to participate in South San Francisco High School athletic programs.

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in SSFHS athletics, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average (GPA) during the following academic periods:

  • First quarter

  • End of first semester

  • Third quarter

  • End of spring semester

Academic eligibility is confirmed at 12:00 p.m. on the eighth school day following the end of each grading period.


Transfer Students

Students transferring from another school must speak with the Athletic Director before becoming eligible to participate in athletic programs.

Participation & Registration Steps

Students who wish to participate in an athletic program must have parent or guardian consent.

To complete registration, parents/guardians must:

  1. Review all required documents listed below.

  2. Complete the SSFUSD Athletic Packet.

  3. Have a medical professional sign, date, and indicate clearance on page 2 of the Athletic Pre-Participation Screening Exam form.

  4. Submit the completed SSFUSD Athletic Packet.

An online submission tool provided by SportsNet Inc. is available to help families complete and submit the required forms.


Medical Coverage & Insurance

Student insurance coverage is available through Pacific Educators Insurance Services at 1-800-722-3365.

Families without health insurance may also seek acute clinical care through Stanford Medicine’s Arbor Free Clinic.


CIF Requirements

Participation in SSFHS athletics is governed by California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) rules and regulations. Student-athletes and families are encouraged to review CIF policies related to eligibility, transfers, and participation.
